I had moved to England at the age of 12, and throughout the process of my education here I familiarised myself with the English language to a native-like level and accent. I studied Film and Media at the University of Sunderland, gaining a bachelor of art's degree in July 2017. Most of the course focused on theory and required excellent writing skills. Formatting, punctuation, spelling, and grammar contributed to the essay's final grade, as the course focused on developing an analytical approach to media, which could be utilised when writing for websites or newspapers. The degree also covered areas such as sound design, and video editing, where most of the grade was calculated based on the final quality of the practical work. The sound aspect, for example, was judged upon how the audio is implemented in the film. Because many sound effects can use the same frequencies, resulting in a muddy audio if not edited properly.
During my degree I was undergoing an English teaching course, the TEFL certificate, which was awarded to me with a distinction grade by the TEFL Academy. During that time I was also volunteering at Newcastle College during the English as a Foreign Language classes. Finally, after graduating from the University of Sunderland, I underwent a CELTA certificate at Newcastle College, an intensive course focused on teaching English for students with various needs. Again, this involved advancing my understanding of the English language and its grammar. This lead me to a working in Prague, at James Cook Languages as an English tutor. My responsibilities included preparing materials for each session, delivering one-to-one lessons at companies, or for larger classes, usually within company's offices. The range of levels I taught was from A2 to C1, and consisted mostly of general and business English. I have only spent 2 months working for JCL, full time, as I had to return to England for personal reasons.
Between January and March I had worked as a full time, paid intern at J&B Recycling. I was responsible for translating various documents relating to workplace safety procedures, from English to Polish.
Finally, I moved to Wrocław, after completing my translation internship, to work as an English teacher. More details in my portfolio.
