Check how with the Help of Useme this game development studio was able to maintain its creativity while effectively managing business operations and outsourcing tasks.

Warsaw-based gaming studio with big ambitions

Hobo Bunch is a gamedev company that creates computer and console games. This Warsaw-based development studio not only produces games for its clients but also provides them with developers for their own projects.

A dream to work in the creative industry on our terms

Working in the Gamedev industry has always been my dream. Together with my partner, we knew that it was a way to unleash our creativity, but only if we worked on our terms. This meant establishing a business and building a team.

New opportunities brought new responsibilities

We started our business, and it brought a whirlwind of emotions. Excitement peaked when we signed our first game production contract. However, after a moment of euphoria we realized: to complete this project, we needed to hire subcontractors and handle administrative tasks. Were we prepared?

When paperwork goes against creativity

Hiring people involves a lot of formalities and paperwork. Does this align with my vision of working in the creative industry? We’re great at producing games, but have limited knowledge about accounting & legal issues.

Neither of us had a business background. My partner is an artist, and I’m a developer with an artistic soul. We wanted it to stay that way – each of us focusing on what we love and what we’re good at. We couldn’t imagine a situation where a significant amount of our time was spent on preparing and signing contracts, settling deals, and maintaining documentation.

It was natural to ask our freelancers to settle deals through Useme

Useme has been with us since the beginning, even earlier. We used this platform as freelancers when settling with our clients. Now the roles have reversed. We are the clients using subcontractors’ services, and Useme allows us to pay them quickly and legally. After the collaboration, we receive a tax invoice from freelancers, even if they don’t have their own business.

Useme also contributes to greater trust from freelancers. Being a small and young company may lead to limited trust from partners. However, thanks to the organized process by Useme, we are perceived as more credible.

We experimented with alternative solutions, but all of them fell short compared to Useme. The advantages of this solution proved to be unbeatable.

We freed up our time

Useme significantly streamlined our collaboration process with freelancers. Subcontractors appreciate the clarity, readability, and high level of automation.

In addition to taking on the part of our business routine that we know the least about – the legal & accounting aspects – Useme also allows us to save a considerable amount of time. Much more than we initially thought.

It’s a solution worth recommending

We can genuinely recommend this solution to other entrepreneurs. And if you have doubts – why not test it in stages, through experiments, just like we did. We settled a small project first to see how the process works, then settled larger contracts this way. Using it doesn’t come with any obligations, so we encourage everyone to give it a chance.

Let the best argument be that personally, we plan to continue using Useme, especially now as we expand the team and sign contracts for additional productions.
