If you’ve used Useme before, the name Request an invoice may sound familiar. But this is a completely new experience. Before, you had to wait for the freelancer to act first. Now you can start the process yourself. Of course, the old option, where the freelancer starts the deal settlement, is still available.
For new users, this is the fastest way to pay a freelancer who doesn’t run their own business and get an invoice.

A solution built with our clients
In surveys and conversations, employers told us they want more control over their invoices, including the title and payment speed. The new process answers these needs:
- You take the lead – you don’t need to ask the freelancer to start the payment. You do it yourself in a few clicks, and the freelancer uploads files that prove the work is complete. You set the price and copyright terms.
- Your invoices stay organized – you enter the title that will appear on your invoice, exactly as your accounting team needs it.
- You know exactly what you’ll pay – both to the freelancer and to Useme.
- No more communication chaos – you don’t need to invite the freelancer and wonder if they started the process.
- Easy payment for new freelancers – even if the freelancer just created an account and doesn’t know Useme yet, you can guide them through the process easily.
How Request an invoice works
Below is a short guide. Find more details in our Help Center.
1. Fill out the form – log in to your employer dashboard and click “Request an invoice”. In the form, enter the key details:
- Freelancer’s email – the email they use on Useme. The freelancer must have a Useme account. If they don’t, they can create one in a few minutes.
- Job details – select a category and subcategory, then enter a title and description of the work.
- Price – set the invoice amount and the freelancer’s payout.
- Copyrights – choose a license, copyright transfer, or no copyright transfer.
- Deposit invoice due date – set the number of days you have to pay.
- Time for the freelancer to upload files (at least 7 days).
2. We contact the freelancer – they will get an email about the new deal. A new deal will also appear on their dashboard.
3. The freelancer uploads files – they log in to Useme, open the deal, and upload files that prove the work is complete. This can be all or part of the work, a screenshot, a report, etc. Uploading files means they accept the deal terms.
4. We check the files – our team checks if the files match the job description from your form. If everything is correct, we move on to payment.
5. Payment – you’ll get an email with a deposit request and a link to pay online.
6. Final invoice – after we receive your payment, we’ll email you the invoice. You’ll also find the freelancer’s files in the deal on your dashboard.
7. Freelancer’s payout – we send it directly to their account, usually within 24 hours (up to 3 business days in special cases).
8. Formalities on us – Useme is an intermediary between you and your contractor, so there’s no need to draft, sign, or store contracts on your side.
Clear pricing rules
In this model, only the employer pays the service fee. On platforms like Fiverr and Upwork, fees are charged to both sides. As a result, the freelancer gets exactly what you agreed on (minus income tax).
The service fee is 4.99% of the invoice amount and has fixed limits :
- The minimum fee is $9
- The maximum fee is $99
Thanks to the maximum fee limit, you can settle high-value jobs without a significant increase in costs.
→ Check pricing details in the Help Center.
Important: The limit applies per payment. If you have a custom pricing plan, the fee will follow your terms.
